Fun times
Been working on Summer program posters for our Children's Room activities. Like making all the different styles. Did use some of the skills I have with the Microsoft to do these displays.
Will have to make sure I add to my Blog more often.
Still enjoy the entries from the other Old Dogs people.

Hello from my home computer
Thought I'd try out my blog from my home computer. But it does go very slow and has to catch up.But I was able to show my Mom what I meant by the Old Dogs lessons I have been doing at work. She seemed pretty impressed and I felt kind of proud of all I have accomplished with it.

My summary of the Days with "Old Dogs"
People seem to think that just because you sit at work in front of a computer, you know everything about them. Well I sure did find out how much I needed to learn about them.
From the first day getting a blog started, I was very excited. And I never thought I would accomplish as much as I did. When that first photo downloaded to my blog I was hooked. A picture makes everything a lot better.
Another great thing about this activity was meeting more people from around the 4 county area. Gene was a definite inspiration to me. I give him a lot of credit for getting me going after reading his blog posts. From that first snowy day account and later his photos and humorous stories of his time with these lessons. And I always took time to check each and everyone on the blogroll to see what people at other Libraries were doing. I enjoyed them all. Violet even left me a comment!
I carry my NYPL card with me. I never would have thought to apply on-line for one.
I had never heard of Flickr, Picnik, RSS feeds, Delicious or image generators.
I joined Flickr. Another thing I would never have thought to do. I still want to try editing photos. That is something else to look forward to doing from these lessons.
I played around with several image generators and liked what I accomplished.
Enjoying music off the web was something I myself had never tried either. I still turn on the radio to get music. The music channels on my digital cable was a new thing to me when I got that - and I do enjoy the Classic Rock channel. But I may have to look into a CD or MP3 player soon. And I still like riding in my husband's truck with his Bose speakers and our collection of Oldies CDs. That's my way of enjoying tunes.
But I'm still not one to listen to a book. I like making a date with a book I have brought home from the Library by a favorite author.
I have been working on Delicious.com now. Have bookmarked several sites that interest me. It is similar to Favorites on my aol mail, but I like that I can bring these sites up on any computer with the account I signed up for.
I had looked for clip art before through Google but now know about the Microsoft clip art site.
YouTube was all new to me. Never have gotten into Videos on the web. Had a little trouble playing the videos on some of our computers here at the Library. Not really sure why. But had no trouble when I sat down at the public terminals.
Podcasts were fascinating. I had never experienced them either. Will probably go back and work with that some more later.
And I was eventually successful with downloading a video. I was able to view it. Send it somewhere and put it on my blog. It took me overnight to do it all. But was happy when I came to work the next day and it was waiting for me on my blog. Haven't tried it again. But maybe soon.
One very important thing I think I have learned is to take my time with each new thing I try on the web. Look at what they offer. Like "old dogs" was always advising us to do. When I am asked by a patron for help, I don't hesitate as much as I use to. I try to get them through as best as I can. Look at the screen. Do what it says. See all the options that are layed out on the screen. So I have learned to slow down when working with the computer.
My sisters may be coming to me now with questions. I feel like I now know a little more than they do. And I need to sit a little longer with my aol account. Never saw how much was there before. And I pay for that!
I am so glad I took the plunge and became an Old Dog Learning New Tricks. I never ever thought I would have so much Fun.
Thank You Pamela for all the time you put into this program. It took a lot of work and patience organizing all the weeks. I printed each week and review them all the time.
I feel like a New Dog working well with all the "tricks" of the computer.

Orchid video
Wow!! Looks like maybe I did It!
Well Now the Link only shows when it is Edit Posts!
Back to the drawing board...
Interesting...Now when I go to my blog, the link is highlighted and will go to the video.
I am totally confused.
Have to say it is a very nice clip of the NYC Orchid show from last month. I really enjoyed viewing it. Our local orchid club just did a show at the Mall 2 weekends ago and it was very impressive also. And I purchased an orchid for my collection.
Really Simple Syndication

Had to put the full meaning in my Title. Maybe that way I will remember it better. Tried working on RRS feeds today also. Tried the Weather Channel and also CNN. Looks like I would have more to Bookmark from CNN. I always like the way aol has the latest news to go to if I check my mail account. I find out alot of breaking news that way. When the tsunami hit that year, I learned of it that way. And the other day from the feeds on aol, I saw the news about the volcano eruption in Chile. And I was able to use that with a reference question I had here at the Library out in our Children's Room on Saturday. So I do see where these RRS help us all keep in touch with what interests us or what's happening out in the world.
Music on the web

--Tonight I tried to listen to music on the web. This goes back to the lessons from Week 12 - Digital Music. I did not have much luck with eMusic. Installing and joining did not work for me. So I googled free music and saw a listing for aol. I have an aol account but have never tried this option. I searched for one of my favorite artists - Bob Seger and listened to "Turn the page". I think that is a very good song for a Sr Clerk at the Library.
--Had a lot of fun today trying this lesson. Will have to try more...

Podcasts
Tried my hand at Podcasts today. My favorite was at the Denver Public Library. The one suggested by Old Dogs of recorded story times. I chose this picture book that I have pictured. I have never listened to a podcast. Now I will look for them on websites. I will also have to try the PodcastDirectory and see what I come across.

Pretty Orchid Video
In order to view it though, I had to wait for a public computer to be free. Dont know why the one at the Childrens Desk and here in my office would not allow the video. I also tried it on the public computer in the Childrens Room, where I often see patrons watching a video. And I was told it had Flash Player on it. But it would tell me Page Not Available. Just some of the trials and tribulations I had.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=G59f36jPPzm
Now I see that it will not link to the video!
I tried to copy and paste the "address". I also tried to e-mail it to myself. I got a message from them but that was about it. But all in all I did have a good time with it. I went home from work feeling pretty happy. And I know that some of the cobwebs we get were cleared out from my YouTube Experience. It is fun to learn.
Will try again soon...
The trials of me and YouTube
-Must say that old dogs has made me want to get a better computer at home. Maybe I will stimulate the economy with my govt check and see what Dell has for me.

New York Public Library Card

It is quite exciting having a NYPL card. The only Library card I have ever had was for our local Library and I work there. So I don't even pull it out to take a book out. Tomorrow I am going to listen to the tutorial - if I can find how to plug in the earphones! I just tried and the tower in my office is almost impossible to get to the back of it. And here at work I plug in the e.phones in our Children's room at least once a day when we set up in the morning. But I WILL get them to work up here in MY office. Maybe it's the headset. I will have to borrow a pair from our J room.
8:00 have to go help lock up the Library...
Tomorrow is another day for us "Old Dogs"...
All Right!! I got help from our young college student Rebecca who works here at the Library parttime. She showed me that there is also a plug area in the FRONT of the tower! She is so good to me. I gave her a hug. Will tell more about my adventures soon.

Dave and Barb got hitched

Well I was able to get a picture from a CD of digital photos onto my blog. It is a photo of me and my new husband at our party at the Hitch' Post just after we got back from Las Vegas. Again it took me a while to do it - but - it worked! Yeah! Dennis, Dave's brother, took the pictures and gave them to us on a CD plus one that will do a slide show. I know I could always ask Dennis if I had any questions about all this. But it is really nice to discover some of this by myself.
This is kind of Cool!
